Conditions That Physiotherapy Help in Orchard Park NY

Physiotherapy helps restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease. Physiotherapy or "medically directed rehab" helps restore, maintain, and promote overall fitness and health. Our Orchard Park patients include accident victims and individuals with disabling conditions such as low-back pain, arthritis, heart disease, fractures, head injuries, and cerebral palsy.

Treatment often includes exercise; especially for patients who have been immobilized or who lack flexibility, strength, or endurance. Physiotherapy helps encourage patients to use their muscles to increase their flexibility and range of motion. More advanced exercises focus on improving strength, balance, coordination, and endurance. The goal is to improve how an individual functions at work and at home.

Physiotherapy also helps treat a wide range of disorders; such as pediatrics, geriatrics, orthopedics, sports medicine, neurology, and cardiopulmonary physiotherapy.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CHIROPRACTOR AND A PHYSICAL THERAPIST?

Chiropractic and Physical Therapy are professions, not treatments. Both Chiropractors (DC) and Physical Therapists (DPT) are doctors. The professions have a lot of overlap in education and expertise. Chiropractors are heavily trained in spinal and extremity manipulations (adjustments), as well as diagnostic imaging (MRI & X-rays). Physical Therapist are more heavily trained in rehab, wound care and assistive living. Many Physical Therapists perform spinal manipulations, just like many Chiropractors perform exercise and rehabilitation. Traditionally, Chiropractors perform more passive therapies (the doctor moves you around), and PT’s perform more active therapies (you’re directed how to move.)

How Physiotherapy Works

Fuhrmann Health Center in Orchard Park was designed to provide an ideal environment for healing your body, through chiropractic, massage or physiotherapy. When you arrive at the Fuhrmann Health Center, Dr. Fuhrmann will take a thorough history, and evaluation of the entire body including posture and biomechanics, range of motion and joint mobility to find out the cause of pain or disability. You will then discuss treatment options and goals, so that we can customize a treatment plan catered to you.

Each session will last roughly 30 min to 60 min. The frequency of visits and the length of treatment is determined by Dr. Fuhrmann and the patient.

The results are typically a result of the patient’s commitment. When the patient follows the plan, does their exercises as often as suggested and using the proper techniques, the treatment is typically very successful.

Dr. Nicholas Fuhrmann is a certified Workers’ Compensation and No Fault Doctor in Orchard Park, NY. If you have been recommended for physiotherapy or chiropractic care after an injury, give us a call and we can get you in today!
